Tesla Vehicle History Report
The Tesla M3 is a three-door hatchback built by Tesla Motors. It is designed to be the all-electric version of the Nissan Leaf, and shares many components, including the battery. It was unveiled in September 2011 at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Production began in December 2012, and its base price is US$37,500. It was intended for the North American market, but a 2013 patent-infringement lawsuit by General Motors forced Tesla to change the model to 'Nissan Leaf' to avoid paying GM $1.9 billion for infringing patents. At first, the Tesla M3's battery pack was designed to store at least 42 kWh, but later development produced the M3 with the larger battery pack which stores at least 62 kWh. Tesla introduced the M3 as an all-electric vehicle, and initially projected a range of , with a battery pack. Tesla later reduced the projected range to 300 miles, with the battery pack.
