Peugeot Vehicle History Report
The Peugeot car has been produced by the French automotive manufacturer Peugeot since 1891, with the exception of a one-year interruption caused by World War I. In the 20th century, Peugeot's car manufacturing was the last major French car manufacturer, along with Citroën, to maintain a full range of cars. The first Peugeot-designed vehicle was the 1891-launched Veloce, which was manufactured in Poissy by Société Anonyme des Automobiles Peugeot. The Veloce was a small, lightweight, sporting car with a chain drive. The chain drive was used to transmit power from the four- or five-cylinder engine to the rear wheels. The Veloce was sold in very limited numbers. The company's production was interrupted for nearly one year during World War I as Peugeot was a major supplier to both sides.
