BMW Vehicle History Report
The BMW M3 is a road car built and sold by BMW between the years of 1984 and 1999. The M3 was introduced to the public on the first press day at the Frankfurt Motor Show in October 1984. During the development process of the car, BMW's design team struggled with how to create a compact four-door coupe from a stretched version of the compact two-door coupé of the past. They settled on the idea of designing a small, two-seater with four doors, after testing several prototypes. The BMW M3 featured a unique 2.5 L inline-six engine which had a double overhead camshaft configuration and a single intake manifold, and was used in a twin-turbo setup. This engine was rated at , with at 5,000 rpm. Output was increased to and at 5,600 rpm in the 1990 model year.
