Audi is a marque of luxury automobiles produced by German manufacturer Audi AG of Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. The brand was created in 1936 by Ferdinand Porsche and Karl Kling and was originally known as The company was founded in 1937 with Ferdinand Porsche becoming its first chairman and chief designer. The Audi name refers to the ('Duck', a type of car once popular in Europe), which had been in production at the Audi company's main factory in Berlin-Grunewald, in what is now the borough of Grunewald, from 1912 until 1935. From the 1980s, Audi has focused on luxury marques like the Audi A8, Audi A6, and the Audi A7. In 1993, the Audi 100, a compact hatchback with a V8 engine, was launched.
