So, some not so common information. An engine is a fuel driven mechanical device, size and fuel type don’t really matter, models use very small engines, trucks and equipment use much larger engines. A motor, is an electrical winding, yes most vehicles have motors, but, usually not for drive. Most motors on a vehicle would be a starter or an alternator, or generator, or even the heater fan drive motor. Even if your vehicle uses a motor for power to the wheels, it is still a motor, and not an engine.
So, your vehicle, no longer exclusively, but, in most cases, does not run on a motor, it runs on an engine!
This flathead ford had not ran in 10 + years when I started on the project for the air museum in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. Had to remove the heads and put in new head gaskets, but, where the in head bolt heater device was, it had frozen the bolt to the block. When the head came off it took part of the block between 2 cylinders. We used a valve grinder to clean up the hole that was left. \we used a lathe to fabricate an insert that was then attached. Used a dremel to clean up the overlap into the combustion chamber. Put in the new gasket, and locked it all back down.
It then needed (and my son was there and helped with some of this) the fuel pump rebuilding, the generator, the carb, the regulator cleaning and the starter also needed rebuilding. So, most anything bolted on got rebuilt. Put in a good battery and primed the carb a bit and that was that. The truck ran in time for the air show that year and all ended up good.
This was the first restoration project I worked on. It is currently at the air museum in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It came with squirrel nests on the wings, rust, corrosion, was at one time wrapped in mactac. It was a mess, but, we took it apart and started to clean and repair parts. Had to look at harvard pictures to retrofit some missing bits.
It turned out nice, did not work on the final finishing ass I had moved back to England for quite a few years before we were done.
